Getting Updated and Giving Back

My Hair is a Gift

A few weeks ago I decided it was time for a fresh start since I have been organizing many
new opportunities for my design career. There are many face-to-face meetings in which I need to look polished and confident. It's also Summer and time for a change. I had to talk myself into all the reasons to cut 14" of "Cher Hair" into a shorter updated style. The blow drying and flat ironing takes too much time out of my morning as well as my neck hurting from the weight of my thick and wavy mane. So that being said, I figured it was the time for cutting hair with a purpose.  I will give my long hair to someone in need for my Summer Mitzvah, "good deed".

There are a few charities that take hair to make wigs for kids with Cancer and other diseases that cause hair loss.  Locks of Love, Pantene Beautiful Lengths and Children With Hair Loss are a few of the Charities I have found on Google. They all have different criteria for hair.  My hair has some grey strands and has been colored for many years, so not all charities want my can kind of hair.  Also they will not except bleached hair. Which my hair has never been. There is a length minimum too. One wants at least 8", another at least 10".  There are also directions for packing, shipping as well as forms to fill out.  I can also make a dedication for a loved one,
send photos and possibly have them published.

Yesterday was my big day with Luna my hairdresser for 15 years. I trust his judgement, sense of
style and expertise.  I took photos all along the way while I sat in the salon chair while Luna talked
to me about family and made me feel comfortable with my decision to let go of 14" of crazy hair.

I decided on a Charity to send my hair gift. The hair is on the w  to someone who needs it more than me.  I will have a sassy short hairstyle for the first time in over 20 years. It will take time to getting used
to my neck being exposed no more ponytails or braids, but it's worth it.  XOX, Nina
